Tony Curtis (1925-2010): Curtis was one of the post-War pretty boys groomed for B-picture stardom by Universal, but it didn’t take him long to escape the category. His streetwise exuberance and tough availability made him a matinee idol, and his versatility made him a major star in films like Sweet Smell of Success and The Defiant Ones.  Tony said: “I was the best-looking kid in town. It’s not what you got but what you do with it that counts.”
