W.C. Fields

W.C. Fields (1880-1946): W.C. Fields was another Ziegfeld Follies alumnus who found middling success in silent films and stardom in sound films. Fields portrayed a hard-drinking misanthrope, antagonistic to women, children, and dogs. His self-authored scripts were set in a weird universe where he did hilarious battle with the things he loathed. Fields said: “Hollywood is the gold cap on a tooth that should have been pulled out years ago.”
