Davia King | We The People Collection
Created with the intent of helping to connect people and raise consciousness, the works in this collection emerged from a series live paintings in front of various groups over the last four years. Every face in each of the pieces is a portrait of someone in the audience. The faces are created through an automatic drawing technique, in which Davia’s eyes focus exclusively on the subject, not looking at the canvas. The resulting ‘blind contour’ style drawings capture the energy of the group as sensed through each person’s feelings — interpreted, made manifest by the artist.
King’s compositions live in a unique borderland between surrealism, expressionism, and street art. The styles fused by her humanistic, empathetic nature. Davia King lives and works in Los Angeles.
