Rohitash Rao

Rohitash Rao was born in Hyderabad, India and raised in Rancho Cucamonga, California. He has been drawing since he could hold a pencil and used to draw on everything and anything he could find. (Funny how nothing's changed.) He graduated with a BFA with honors from the Art Center College of Design in 1991 and started his career in advertising. He spent many years as an award-winning art director but soon segued into other creative arenas.  He now makes a living as a children’s book illustrator, animation director and painter. He has illustrated 5 books thus far; the trilogy, "Herbert's Wormhole" and the first 2 of a 4-book series, "Creature Keepers." His animated films have played in over 25 film festivals around the world including TriBeCa, Annecy, The Spike and Mike Sick and Twisted Film Festival and Cannes (advertising festival.)

His paintings are strongly conceptual and are about creating through the filter of repurposing. The materials he paints on have all been thrown away. Culture calls it trash. He sees it as possibility waiting to be freed. The pieces serve as a commentary upon our music, our movies, our myths.
