Joe "Prime" Reza Art

Joe "Prime" Reza is a legendary figure in the history of Los Angeles public wall writing. Raised in the Pico-Union district, he began his graffiti career in 1980 and soon became an original member of the highly influential K2S (Kill 2 Succeed) crew. Prime is widely credited as the architect of a signature L.A. aesthetic, one that masterfully hybridizes regional typography with complex East Coast wildstyle. His personal journey is defined by profound resilience. After surviving a 1989 shooting that permanently impaired his dominant right hand, he remarkably retrained himself to draw and paint entirely with his left. Today, his visionary work easily bridges the gap between underground culture and prestigious fine art institutions. He famously designed the striking silver-on-black cover for the Getty Research Institute’s L.A. Liber Amicorum (The Getty Graffiti Black Book). This hub delves into the enduring, triumphant legacy of a true urban master.
