Kourken Pakchanian (1934-1991) | Photographer, Filmmaker
Kourken was born in Lebanon in 1934 of Armenian parentage, and raised in Egypt. His father was a professional portrait photographer and taught Kourken the technical side of photography starting with developing and retouching. In the early 1960’s Pakchanian emigrated to New York to pursue what would become a very successful career as a fashion photographer. His editorial work appeared worldwide in the pages of VOGUE, HAPPER’S BAZAAR, ELLE, MARIE CLARE, SPORTS ILLUSTRATED, hundreds of other publications as well as developing print and broadcast advertising campaigns with major international fashion and beauty brands. His work is in the permanent collection of the Getty Museum.
