Robert Coburn

Robert Coburn (1900-1990) was a unit still photographer of the early 1930s who acceded to the position of head portrait photographer at the small independent Samuel Goldwyn Studios, where he shot Dorothy Lamour for The Hurricane, Gary Cooper for The Adventures of Marco Polo, and Merle Oberon for Wuthering Heights. When Hollywood politics reshuffled the staffs of several companies in 1941, Coburn moved to Columbia Pictures, the smallest of the eight major studios. His work with Rita Hayworth confirmed her status as the number one sex symbol of the 40s. Ten years later, Coburn repeated the process with Kim Novak.
