Derujinsky | Around The World Portfolio
In 1957, one of the most important photographic assignments in the fashion industry and for Derujinsky would be his unprecedented trip Around the World traveling to eleven countries in twenty-five days celebrating the inaugural flight of the Boeing 707. This series was featured throughout the January 1958 edition of Harper's Bazaar.
This beautiful series includes Model and wife Ruth Neumann~Derujinsky sporting mostly American designers. First stop Nara Deer Park, Japan to a sunset in Victoria Harbor and Kowloon, Hong Kong. Gleb’s photos brilliantly captured a sunrise at the Temple of the Dawn in Bangkok along with the Valley of the Buddhas, a day at the beach in Ceylon (modern Sri Lanka), Deli and Jaipur India, Athens, Greece, finishing with a flamenco serenade at Las Cuevas de Luis Candelas Restaurant in Madrid, Spain.
Derujinsky, unlike his contemporaries, saved little in the form of negatives making this exceptional series of photos precious to both photography collectors and fashion historians alike. The Around The World Portfolio offers up a unique look into the artistry of Derujinsky. By printing for the first time, the un-cropped full frame camera negatives, the viewer can now see his masterful compositions and how they stand on their own as fine art, yet also left plenty of room for the art directors at Harper’s to use for their more commercial purposes.
