Derujinsky | Paris Collection Portfolio

In 1957 Gleb Derujinsky arrived in France looking for a new angle to cover the famed Paris collections. In a small bookstore on the left bank he found his inspiration — an old picture book from the late 1800’s detailing the mundane tasks of everyday Paris. Derujinsky moved his models into the real Paris and captured an extraordinary series using local Parisians as his extras.

What is decidedly important in the Paris Spring collection 1957 is that Derujinsky shot the spring collections for nearly the entire decade from 1952 - 1962. Interestingly this collection falls directly in the center of these years of his work. Perhaps Derujinsky saved only this part of that huge contribution to fashion and photography as this was his proudest moment and in a nutshell covers exactly what he felt from start to finish during these shoots over the decade.

His shared experience with his two muses Carmen Dell’Orefice and his wife Ruth Neumann~Derujinsky embody his visionary perspective. Many of the images selected for this portfolio were never published as others were selected by Harper’s Bazaar. These images were what Gleb marked on his contact sheets. I can proudly say these are the artist’s picks.
