Singlehandedly responsible for making southern rock cool in the 1970s, Lynyrd Skynyrd occupy a special place in rock ‘n’ roll history. Although their career was tragically interrupted early on by a plane crash killing several members including front man and founder Ronnie Van Zant, their legacy had already been solidified. With rock anthems familiar to all such as “Sweet Home Alabama”, “Free Bird”, and “What’s Your Name”, this arguably hardest-working band from the south showed the world what real American rock was about. Inducted into the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame in 2006 and still playing to sold out arenas around the world, Lynyrd Skynyrd are the epitome of roots rock stardom.
