Curator's Note Landau shoots from below and slightly to the side, with the figure carved hard against an unbroken cobalt sky. The seated muse — eyes closed, hands clasped beneath her chin — sits atop a partial dome that anchors the lower edge of the frame without competing for attention. What the angle does is two things at once: it isolates the carving from its amphitheater context, and it lets late-day sun rake across the parallel grooves of the stylized hair and drapery. The granite reads as alternating bands of bright gray and deep shadow. No foreground, no horizon, no architecture beyond the dome. Just the figure, the geometry, the sky.
