Philippe Lallut, (b.1972 New Caledonia): Known as Kanaky is an international post pop artist based in Tahiti. His work incorporates the island culture of his homeland New Caledonia, but is also richly informed by US and French pop culture. While his process employs the silk screen techniques of the 20th century pop artists, he adds more urban flavor to the work, with spray paint and hand cut stencils lifted from the street art playbook. Kanaky’s themes can be political, humorous or reflect one of his true passions - surfing.Kanaky is currently on view at the Musse de Tahiti and has exhibited several times at the Musée des Arts et Métiers in Paris. He has been represented at international art festivals and galleries in the South Pacific, United States, France and Japan.
