Description

Los Angeles Architectural Photograph | Signed Limited Edition Print

A Robert Landau photograph of the Streamline Moderne facade and vertical neon blade sign of the Art Theatre in Long Beach. The cinema was built in 1924 as the Lee Theatre and remodeled in 1934 by Schilling & Schilling in the Streamline idiom that defined its current appearance.

Artist: Robert Landau

Title: Art Theater

Collection: Art Deco | Los Angeles

Edition: Signed and numbered in the margin, archival pigment prints on 100% cotton watercolor paper, limited edition:

  • 16X20, edition of 25
  • 24X30, edition of 5

Curator's Note The composition isolates the vertical thrust of the ziggurat-style blade sign against a brilliant, cloudless sky, emphasizing its classic typographic geometry. Direct sunlight articulates the smooth, sweeping curves of the stucco building alongside the rigid, vertical fluting of the central tower. By deliberately cropping out the surrounding street level, the framing distills the cinema's exterior into a vibrant study of coastal daylight and streamline architectural form.
