Description

Los Angeles Architectural Photograph | Signed Limited Edition Print

A long-exposure nighttime photograph by Robert Landau of the 1931 Electric Fountain at the corner of Wilshire and Santa Monica Boulevards in Beverly Hills. Architecture by Ralph Carlin Flewelling; central kneeling figure sculpted by Robert Merrell Gage.

Artist: Robert Landau

Title: Electric Fountain

Edition: Signed and numbered in the margin, archival pigment prints on 100% cotton watercolor paper, limited edition:

  • 16X20, edition of 25
  • 24X30, edition of 5

Curator's Note: A long shutter renders the fountain's water as solid bands of light — yellow and green arcs frozen in mid-trajectory, fanning outward around and behind the central figure. The kneeling sculpture stays crisp and still: hands cupped at her knees, head bowed, illuminated by the same yellow-gold light that paints the spray. Behind her, deep twilight sky. The arcs read almost like a graphic flourish — a halo of luminous geometry. Without the long exposure this is just a fountain. With it, the photograph becomes water rendered as architecture and time made visible..
