Curator's Note: The frame stages a confrontation. On the left edge, a sliver of the older Beaux-Arts neighbor in muted gray stone. On the right, the Eastern Columbia tower rising in saturated turquoise — setback after setback into the sun-rayed clock face. Gold chevrons run vertically down the piers, adding momentum to the upward thrust. Landau shoots from a slightly angled vantage that lets the contrast in palette and silhouette do the work: gray beside turquoise, classical cornice beside Zigzag setback, fragment beside whole. The light is even, the sky a deeper blue than the tile — which keeps the turquoise from going acidic. What you read first is color. What you read second is the steady climb.
