Description
Los Angeles Architectural Photograph | Signed Limited Edition Print
A nighttime photograph by Robert Landau of the multi-color neon signage at the Frolic Room, the Hollywood Boulevard cocktail bar adjacent to the Pantages Theatre.
Artist: Robert Landau
Title: Frolic Room Neon Sign
Edition: Signed and numbered in the margin, archival pigment prints on 100% cotton watercolor paper, limited edition:
- 16X20, edition of 25
- 24X30, edition of 5
Curator's Note: Landau frames tight on the sign and lets the rest of the world fall to black. What's left is calligraphy in light: yellow cursive script reading "Frolic" and "Room," a horizontal red signature spelling out "Cocktails," and behind all of it a diagonal lattice of pink, blue, green, and red tubes crossing the frame at hard angles. No street level, no architecture, no doorway. The diagonal background reads almost like a Mondrian rendered in bent gas. The yellow script floats forward; the diagonals recede. Commercial signage stripped down to pure graphic — line, color, dark.
